On Saturday the 27th July our ladies over 55's rink left Seafield with our lucky mascot Sally to travel to Ayr to represent District 14 in the National Finals. After leaving the club the ladies were eager to get on the green to face a team from Crofthead, Glasgow. Although it was a very close game Seafield ladies were unlucky not to progress to the next round losing by one shot The ladies had a fantastic experience playing at such a large venue and hope to do so again in the near future.
Congratulations to our 2024 Ladies Champion Tracey Barclay pictured here with our runner up Marion Stout. The ladies provided a great game for the many spectators with score being close until the last two ends when Tracey pulled away and went on to win.
On Saturday the 20th July Seafield were delighted to host the Edinburgh Bowling Association's Ladies Cup and Gent's Plate Finals. The ladies game was contested by Liberton and London Road Foundry while the Gent's game was played between Brunstane and Slateford. All teams played to their highest standard but the overall winners were Liberton Ladies and Slateford Gents who retained the Plate for a second consecutive year. Well done to everyone involved and we hope you and your many supporters enjoyed your day at Seafield.
The final of District 14, Scottish Over 55s Ladies Rink competition took place on Wednesday the 5th June at Goldenacre. Our team of Carol, Moira, Louise and Jill played against London Road Foundry. The game was played in a variety of weather conditions including hail, rain and even some sunshine. The Foundry gave us a good game but the Seafield team won 15-8. This win gives the ladies the opportunity to play at Ayr with the first round being played on the 28th July.
The Persevere was run on Saturday the 1st June and 18 pairs contested a hard fought tournament. The weather was extremely kind and we were delighted to play in brilliant sunshine after so much rain recently. Well done to everyone who advanced from the group stages and commiserations to Philip and Chris who reached the final but were pipped at the post by Steven and Stuart who won the final. Another fantastic day at Seafield.
Winners Steven Dodds and Stuart Robertson
Forty seven members attended Opening Day on Saturday, with most of these playing in the Hat game. Those in attendance were delighted to get back on the green after the Winter break and are looking forward to the 2024 Season. The Hat game was followed with a three course meal and a raffle.
During the closed Season the Committee and some Members have been extremely busy getting the clubhouse, green and surrounds ready for Season 2024. I am sure that if you haven't been at the club recently that you will see a huge difference. Some of the work that has been carried out inside the clubhouse is the decoration of the hall, painting of the lounge tables and the reinstallation of draft beer. The Green has seen extensive work, including the laying of top dressing, spraying with fertiliser, micro tined, scarified and regular mat dragging and grass cutting. The surrounds of the club have been cleared of rubbish, the slabs have been relaid and the flower beds and lawn have been given a tidy. We have also managed to get the defibrillator box installed in the park and the Council have painted warnings to ask cyclists to slow down when passing the gate. Unfortunately, due to the recent severe weather we have been unable to mount the flood lights. These have been purchased and assembled and we are still hopeful that these will be working before Opening Day. Finally, after years of discussions the replacement of the gable end wall and the installation of the new signage has been completed. I am sure you will agree that the improvements made have been extensive but very worthwhile. Let's hope for a warm dry Season where we can all enjoy the benefits of the improvements.
Opening day will be Saturday the 13th April. More information will be shared nearer the time.
Fees for this year were agreed to stay the same as last year and information has been shared with members via email, text and Whatsapp.
