Seafield had representation at the EBA finals in the form of the mixed rink. Having come through four tricky rounds to make it to the final, hopes were high. Unfortunately on the day the strong Hillside team just played better and our team of Garry Kean, Moira Gilbert, Carol Kean and Stuart Gilbert had to settle for second place.
Unfortunately the building work around the perimiter of the club had made the existing machine shed unsafe, with large cracks appearing in all the walls and the floor subsiding by around 6 inches at one end. We had no option but to have it knocked down and rebuilt from the foundations up. The water sprinkler system is still to be reinstated but we are close to completing this work and it shoud all be working again in good time for next season.
Another successful tournament with the weather being kind to us again, all competitors seemed to enjoy their games. The eventual winners were Robert Shiels and Drew Dodds (Leith).
The Persevere was run on Saturday 28th May and 20 pairs contested a hard fought tournament. The weather remained kind throught the day and it was nice to see some new faces this year as well as several folk returning after a few years break.
Full green during the sectional stages
Thanks to our sponsors McGillivray funeral directors for their financial support.
One or two light refreshments were taken during the day.

The finallists. Commiserations to Bill and Tom and congratulations to Carol and Micky.
Friday eveing saw the draw for the Gents's Championship with 60 entries. The largest we have seen for a number of years. Sunday afternoon the Ladies draw was made after a game of bowls, tea/coffee and cake. We have 33 ladies who wished to be entred into the draw which is an all time record number for the club. Both draws will be posted on the competitions tab alongside the draws of all the other competitions. Please don't forget to sign up on the draw sheets in the locker rooms.
The season kicked off with a friendly match at our closest neighbours Leith. On a pretty chilly evening we took a team of 20 across the links and played as 5 rinks, which was nice after the maximum games of triples which we were allowed last year under the Covid restrictions. Unfortunately the result wasn't what Seafield had hoped for, bearing in mind that we have had a good record in the last few years over our local rivals, however everyone seemed to enjoy the evening and thats the main point of these types of game.
We had a decent turnout on opening day with 34 players on the green and over a dozen down spectating. The following day was an open day where about a dozen folk came down for a tryout of our green and it seemed to be quite successful with most of them filling out applications for membership!
Two hat nights, on Monday and Saturday, have been well attended as well, so we seem to be getting back into the swing of the outdoor season.
On Wednesday night our Gents will play a pre-season friendly at our neighbours Leith to help prepare for the upcoming EBA league starting next week when we welcome Juniper Green to Seafield.
Thursday afternoon sees our Seniors opening league match of the season at home to Liberton, while next Monday night will see our Ladies section playing their first ever EBA league match away at Willowbrae.
The Ladies will also begin their Forth League season with a visit to Hillside next Friday afternoon.
Best of luck to all of our club representatives in these teams and lets see if we can win some silverware this year!
We look forward to seeing all our new and existing members back at the club on Saturday 16th April for opening day. Work has continued to progress both on and off the green and hopefully the changes will be noticed and appreciated by everyone at the club.
For those still not decided about whether bowls is for them or not, we are still planning on hosting an open day on Sunday 17th April so you can come down for a free game to see if you enjoy it or not. We would appreciate that anyone considering attending the open day contact us in advance so we can ensure we can handle the numbers in terms of loaning out equipment (bowls and shoes).
Hopefully the sun will shine and everyone will have a great time... we can't wait to meet our guests.
Work is ongoing to spruce up the club and the green so we will be ready to open on Saturday 16th April.
Any new members who commit to joining and have paid their membership fee on or prior to this date are welcome to attend the opening day of the green.
For anyone who is undecided whether bowling is for them, we will be running an open day/taster session on Sunday 17th April at 1pm which anyone can attend (we would however prefer to have prior notice of your intention to attend so that we can make sure that it isn't over subscribed and that we have enough spare equipment that we can lend out on the day). If you do intend coming along on the Sunday, please advise by email to secretary.seafieldbc@hotmail.com thank you.
The AGM was held in the clubhouse at 1pm on Sunday.
A decent turnout and the revised constitution was adopted with only one amendment.
Opening day was confirmed as Saturday 16th April, with an 'open day' afternoon being held on Sunday 17th to allow people to come and give the game a try on our green.
The fees were agreed as the status quo for the coming season, so any new members will be offered to join for 50% of the full price again.
The draws for the new season league matches are now out, these will be posted on the club notice boards.
Along with these fixtures, a sheet will be posted to allow members to advise the weeks that they will be unavailable, which will make the job of the selectors a bit easier, please be sure to enter any dates that you cannot play.
Our ladies will open their first ever season in the Monday evening EBA league with a short trip to Willowbrae in the ladies division 2. On top of this, the ladies have also entered the Friday afternoon Forth League for the coming season, and also some East of Scotland competitions, so there should be plenty of opportunities for the ladies to play in external representative games for the first time in a few years.
Our gents start off with a home game to Juniper Green in division 4 of the gents league. Planned league reconstruction for the 2023 season makes it vitally important that we finish the season in a decent position as it looks like a flat structure will be implemented, with only one league of up to nine divisions being created from the current first and second XVI league formats.
With our ongoing recruitment drive, it is hoped that by next year we will be able to field another gents team on Wednesday evenings (preferably a XVI, but an VIII would be a step in the right direction). Also there will be a drive to encourage our members to participate in either the Edinburgh Cup (20 players) or Edinburgh Plate (12 players), both played in a straight knockout format on Friday evenings from next season.
